ST. ALBAN’S BUILDING PROGRAM
The purpose of the Building Program is to make St. Alban’s more attractive and welcoming, particularly for seniors and handicapped and to make those major repairs required to allow us to continue to grow and expand our mission in the future as a Christ-centered community.
Funding for the Building Program is the result of the generous pledges of the congregation from Capital Fund Drives conducted in 2002 and 2004.
Phase 1 was completed in early 2006 and included the following:
· Re-roofing the Parish Hall, Education Wing, and Bell Tower
· Re-carpeting the Sanctuary
· Air conditioned Room 14
· Installing light filter film on the clerestory windows on the South side of Nave
· Installing updated and expanded telephone and computer network switches and wiring with connections in additional locations
· Repainting, installing new lighting, and retiling the hallways in the Education Wing and both levels of the Administrative Wing
· Repainting and installing new lighting in the Library and the new Admin Office, Treasurer’s Office, Rector’s Office and Assistant Rector’s Office and installing new carpet in the Library, Admin Office, and Assistant Rector’s Office
· Installing additional power equipment and connections to provide power for additional power outlets in the Administrative Wing and for Phase 1 and 2 improvements
· Installing new heat pumps for the Library, Copy Room, Admin Office, Library, Treasurer’s Office and four offices and classrooms on the lower level of the Administrative Wing, as well as an air conditioner in the new Rector’s Office
· Adding two additional handicapped accessible pew spaces
Additional Improvements Completed
· Removal of the stairs to the Memorial Grove and installation a new handicapped accessible walkway to the Memorial Grove
· Installation of new push button activated handicapped doors at the handicapped entrance.
· Re-roofing of the Nave, Administrative Wing, and Breezeway with new gutters where required (re-roofing of the entire Church was not an original objective of the program, however, the need to do so became obvious)
BUILDING PROGRAM UPDATE
The demolition portion of the
program is almost complete with the exception of the roof over the Narthex
entrance. The roof has not yet been removed so as to provide weather protection
for as long as possible. There is a considerable amount of electrical work
associated with the project. This includes the relocation of two obsolete
electrical panels and bringing this portion of the building up to code. This
involves moving a large number of circuits leading to some outages which we are
trying to keep to a minimum in both time and number. Work on the elevator shaft
is in progress. There was a slight delay due to soft soil at the bottom of the
shaft, which required some redesign and additional work. This has been rectified
and we are moving forward. Although we have experienced some slight delays due
to unforeseen conditions, we are still basically on schedule for completion by
mid-December.
The construction area is a dangerous area and everyone is cautioned to stay away
from it unless you have a need to be there and are properly cleared and
outfitted.
