St. Alban’s Youth Group and their leaders

to do Katrina relief work

June 22-28, 2007

“It’s been a year.  And people out there don’t understand that it’s taken this long to crawl out from under the debris.”  This quote from an NPR article last August is typical of the experience of residents along the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast areas hit hard by Hurricane Katrina.  The St. Alban’s Youth Group will be traveling to Bay St. Louis, MS this June (22-28) to pitch in and help with continued cleanup and rebuilding efforts.  The task is daunting – entire towns have literally been scrubbed off the face of the earth – but we are excited to be missionaries doing the work Christ has commanded us to do.  Nearly half the funds for the trip have been raised and, while the team has one more fund raiser planned (a car wash on Mother’s Day, May 13), all donations are greatly appreciated and encouraged.  Fr. Jeff is willing and ready to take your check.

The final fund raiser for the Youth Group mission trip to Mississippi was an overwhelming success. Thanks to the
generosity of so many, our Mother’s Day car wash raised $1,530 to help with the costs of the mission trip. And we now ask for just one more thing — that you please hold in your prayers the members of the parish youth group and adult volunteers who will be traveling to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to engage in hurricane relief and clean up work. The group will travel to the Gulf Coast on June 22 and return on June 28.

Members of the group are: David Allison, Aleca Blaisdell, Rose Broberg, Chet Fraunfelder, Sarah Heffner, Erica LaPrade, Will Shankles, Mickey Singer, Angel Walker, Addison Walker, Beka Conner, Kristy Hudson, Linwood Hudson, John Norton, Carol Norton and Jeff Shankles.

The Gulf Coast recovery process is estimated to take at least 10 years.  There is much work to be done and your Youth Group team is prepared to work hard.  Thank you, again, for your generous financial support and for your thoughts and prayers.  If you have not already done so, please consider making a donation to help us as we share the love of Jesus Christ through the ministry of elbow grease.

Below you will see a video that Christ Church in Fl put together.  They are one of many churches that has helped to adopt Christ Church, MS.  There is also a link for the church website, where you can see many before and after pictures and read stories about the events of Hurricane Katrina.
