Return
Trip to Our Little Roses
October 25-31,
2006
The " Mission
Possible " team of Jim Curren, Grayce O'Niell, Erika Perry, Remy
Jurenas, and Larry Hodgin have finished laying the "goncha "
surface at Our Little Roses. The adults only trip was made
possible by Ron Vogel, and others, with financing and supply
offerings. The Roses faces lit up upon our arrival to the hogar-home-
as many of them were not expecting another visit by St. Alban's
this year. It was Larry's third trip, much to his delight, and
the girls were as delighted to see us, as we we were them.
Pharoh Pharoh began almost immediately, with Grayce leading
the antics. The continued visits of St. Alban's teams are a
delight to the Roses, as they know us as close friends.
The goncha setup began our first full day, with much help from
the bilingual school students during their morning breaks from
test taking. By noon, we had layed almost half the surface, and
they had done most of the piece fitting and carrying from a
storeroom. During the afternoon hours, many of the Roses, upon
returning from their schools, began to continue laying pieces
and helping to center the surface. Marta, a sponsor Rose of
Ginny Peters and others, was our supervisor in organizing her
pals. By late afternoon we had layed most of the surface, again
with the girls doing most of the work.
A few evenings of painting lines, so as to dry by morning
activities, and we finished on schedule. A visiting priest and
his wife also contributed to our efforts with the painting.
We thank St. Alban's for the chance to make this trip and
provide what we believe will be a nicer surface for the Roses to
live and play on.

A Special Followup From Honduras
Dear Parishioners,
We just completed an exciting and extremely
successful 2006 mission trip to Our Little Roses Home for girls in
San Pedro Sula. As many of you know this year we "adopted" the
cancha (playground) and began working with the OLR staff to improve
the playground. Progress has been made and the cancha has been
extended. However, due to scheduling the manufacturing and shipping
constraints we were not able to install the flex court surface we have purchased for
the home during our recent visit.
We recognized that there was a good probability of
this happening when we were
planning the
project and accounted for this in our target budgets and prepared
Plan B. We now need to move to
Plan B, a separate trip to install the surface. This
presents a great
opportunity for some of you who have expressed an interest in
participating in a trip to visit Our Little Roses.
We will return to Our Little Roses in September, or
October for a four to eight day
trip centered around a weekend. We need three days to complete the
work, two days for
travel, plus if there is consensus, two or three days for other
things. Available dates are:
September 20-25
October 25-30
Airfare is/running around $600 for the above dates if
we book ahead.
We need a minimum four workers to install the surface plus ideally
volunteers' to occupy the girls
while we work. We will be involving the older girls in the
installation. If you are interested please let us know as soon
possible. For more information, contact:
