Day 6, July 5, 2006

There is a lot of sharing here, as you can well imagine. But when a Rose first enters the home, she is given something that is hers and hers alone. Little Jacqueline’s prized possession is a battery-operated doll. She sobs with true sadness when one of the other girls tries to take it away.

But when she heard that Juliana was sick, Jacqueline sent this prized doll in to her. Think about your own “stuff,” pick the thing that is most valuable to you, and then imagine giving it away to someone you’ve just met, even someone as wonderful as Juliana. We have a lot to learn from these girls.

Their hearts are large and their brains are pretty impressive too. Case in point, Kay introduced Sudoku to a 10 year old today, and the child already understands the concept of the game and is beginning to work a puzzle. The lessons continue tomorrow!

Sometimes a mission trip can take you from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Liz, the same missionary who did a spectacular job of leading tonight’s service with clarity and authority, managed to really confuse the guard by referring to a frog she was saving as la leche (milk).
