Day 5, July 4, 2006
Communications are much easier this year, and today we learned more than we wanted to, when we became aware late this afternoon of the missle launch in North Korea. We are praying for our friends at home and for our nation.
No matter what relationships are between nations, we are still committed to the strength of relationships built one by one.
Here are some examples:
With encouragement from Larry, a shy but brilliant Rose stood in front of all the girls and missionaries tonight and translated the prayers and readings from English to Spanish
.
We saw small kindnesses among the girls and between the girls and missionaries, helping each other to create artwork. Grayce observed this: one little girl had great difficulty completing her work, and it was obvious that this is a problem she often faces. In frustration, she crumpled up her work and stood hunched in a corner. The other children drew her out and Grayce helped her find a way to help cover over her mistake.
And no, of course it’s not all sweetness and light. The girls stole Tom’s T-shirt (the price he has to pay for being a rock star down here)
And we’re purposely unproductive sometimes, too. Today we took the girls to see the movie Cars – for $1 each – what a bargain!
Pharaoh Pharaoh was a huge hit with the little girls – whew!
