Letter from the Diocese
|
April 30, 2008 In response to Monday afternoon's devastating tornados in southern Virginia, I contacted the Rev. Canon Win Lewis, canon to the ordinary in the Diocese of Southern Virginia, to see how the Diocese of Virginia can be of assistance during this time of need. While they are still in the process of taking a needs assessment in the area, Canon Lewis provided the following information: The Episcopal Church in Southern Virginia has set up a fund for immediate relief for victims of the tornados in the Suffolk area. An initial emergency relief fund of $10,000 from the diocese is being administered through St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 213 North Main Street, Suffolk, VA 23434. The rector of St. Paul's, the Rev. Dr. Keith Emerson, is serving as relief coordinator for the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Relief contributions may be made payable to St. Paul's Episcopal Church and marked "Emergency Relief Fund." All contributions will go directly to aid victims of the tornado disaster. For further information please call St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 757-539-2478 or e-mail office@saintpauls-suffolk.org <mailto:office@saintpauls-suffolk.org> You may recall that the coordinator of these efforts, the Rev. Dr. Keith Emerson, is the former rector of Church of the Epiphany, Richmond. We encourage members of the Diocese of Virginia to make donations as noted above. Please keep all of those affected by this storm in your prayers.
