Vestry Responsibilities

The Vestry is the lay committee that assists the rector in running the parish.  A term is three years and the congregation votes four new people onto the Vestry each year.  The election takes place at our annual meeting in February and the term begins in March.

Here are some of the things Vestry members do:

Meet monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm.  Meetings include a reflection, review of the Treasurer’s report, discussion of the parish business, and refreshments.

Attend an annual Vestry retreat, normally in the spring, to get to know each other better and to review goals and plans for the year.  This usually takes place in early spring on a Saturday from 9am to about 2pm.

Serve as the Vestry representative for a section of the congregation, usually about 25 households, contacting each household annually by phone, email, or personal note.

Liaise with one of St. Alban’s standing committees, such as Worship, Memorials, Parish Life, Outreach, Finance, Christian Formation, Stewardship, Communications, and Building and Grounds.  The Senior Warden will coordinate who is on what committee, taking into account personal preference.

Help with the Vestry-sponsored Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper for the parish.  Members of the Vestry shop, set up, cook, serve, and clean up for the event.

Participate in parish social, fellowship, and educational opportunities as your schedule permits.

Plan and set up the annual Ministry Sunday event.

The incoming Vestry elects the Senior and Junior Wardens at the March meeting.
